President Bola Tinubu has approved a luxurious retirement package for military service chiefs and top-ranking officers. The package includes a $20,000 annual medical allowance for generals, with higher allowances for the Chief of Defence Staff and service chiefs.
Other perks in the package include:
– Transportation: A bulletproof SUV replaced every four years, with maintenance handled by the military, and a backup vehicle such as a Peugeot 508.
– Domestic Arrangements: Five aides, including two cooks, two stewards, and one gardener, as well as a personal assistant, three drivers, and an orderly.
– Security: An aide-de-camp or security officer and necessary military escorts.
– Residential Benefits: Lieutenant Generals and equivalents will receive two Toyota Hilux vehicles or one Toyota Land Cruiser, while Major Generals and Brigadier Generals will receive a Toyota Land Cruiser or equivalent.
This retirement package is part of the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service (HTCOS) for Officers and Enlisted Personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, which was enacted on December 14, 2024.
