The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, to appear before it next Tuesday. This development comes after Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation petitioned the 10th House, alleging that some top customs officials have refused to retire despite reaching their mandatory retirement age.

The foundation specifically named six officials: Imam, Umar, and Egwu, all Assistant Comptrollers, and Awe, Fatia, and Faith, all Comptrollers. The Committee emphasized that Adeniyi, as a public officer, has a duty to clarify the situation and provide the true position to Nigerians.

Mike Etaba, Chairman of the Committee on Public Petitions, stressed that Nigerians deserve to know the truth, especially in an era where many youths are seeking employment. He assured that the Committee would treat the case on its merit, ensuring justice is served.

In a related development, the Committee has threatened to arrest the Director General of the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) if she fails to appear in person to answer charges related to a disputed software development project. The project, installed and deployed by Truid Limited, has been at the center of a breach of license agreement allegation. The Committee has expressed frustration with the NIMC Director General’s continuous absence despite multiple invitations.
