The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East zone has elected a new zonal executive to manage the party’s affairs in the region. Chief Ali Odefa has been re-elected as the Zonal Chairman, while other newly elected members of the zonal executive include:

– Zonal Secretary: Hon. James Ugwu

– Zonal Treasurer: Mrs. Regina Uchebo

– Zonal Organising Secretary: Hon. Cornelius Okey Ugwu

– Financial Secretary: Madubuike Okoro

– Publicity Secretary: Engr. Chigozie Igwe

– Legal Adviser: Barr. Dominic Nwankwo

– Woman Leader: Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arodiogbo

– Zonal Youth Leader: Godswill Nwanoruo

– Auditor: Ezeanya Augustine

Six Zonal Ex-officio and five Zonal Ex-Officio members were also elected.

The election took place during the zonal congress of the party at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu on Wednesday. Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who is also the Leader of the party in the South-East zone, reminded party faithful that “election is never an end in itself and neither should the victory arising from it be construed as personal triumphs.”

Mbah emphasized the importance of setting the PDP as a template for good governance, stating that “democracy abhors excuses – no matter how plausible they sound.” He also tasked party faithful on unity and reinventing the party to restore its past glory in the South East region.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Odefa called for unity, saying it is the only guarantee of PDP’s victory over the ruling All Progressive’s Congress (APC). He accused the APC of bad policies and misgovernance that have caused sufferings in the land.

The event was attended by several notable party members, including the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai; Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; and Senator Sam Egwu, among others.
