President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025. This announcement comes after a rigorous selection process, which involved a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based evaluation of candidates¹[2).

According to a statement by Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, Ogunjimi’s appointment was approved on Tuesday. The 57-year-old accountant was first named as the successor to the incumbent Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, last December.

The selection process, which was conducted in three stages, included a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews. This rigorous evaluation underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.

Ogunjimi boasts an impressive educational background, having graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in 1990. He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. Additionally, he is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

President Tinubu has congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to discharge his duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service.
