Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to restrain his family following allegations that his son, Seyi Tinubu, attempted to influence the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). In a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, on Friday, Atiku warned that Nigeria must not be treated as the personal property of any individual or family.
The controversy erupted after Atiku Isah, who claims to be the NANS President, alleged on Wednesday that Seyi Tinubu and Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande offered him a ₦100 million bribe during a meeting in Lagos. Isah claimed the bribe was intended to secure his support in promoting President Tinubu’s image. He further alleged that he rejected the offer, citing the administration’s purported underperformance, and claimed his life was subsequently threatened by individuals loyal to the President.
In response, Seyi Tinubu took to Instagram on Friday to deny the accusations, labeling them as false and defamatory.
Atiku condemned the alleged actions, stating that it is unacceptable for the first family to attempt to manipulate NANS or any civil society group through bribes, threats, or coercion. The former vice president urged President Tinubu to address the issue and uphold democratic principles.
