Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara returned to Nigeria on Friday evening, landing at Port Harcourt International Airport’s international wing around 7 PM after a two-week overseas vacation.

A video of his arrival captured the governor being welcomed by aides before he was swiftly escorted to a waiting SUV, which departed immediately.

Fubara’s return follows his suspension in March by President Bola Tinubu, alongside Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu and members of the State House of Assembly. The suspension was part of a state of emergency declared in Rivers State, prompted by militant attacks on oil pipelines and escalating tensions between Fubara and 27 state lawmakers.

President Tinubu also cited the involvement of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as a factor in the crisis.
