The Ochetoha K’Idoma Youth Wing, a prominent youth group in Benue South, has demanded the immediate departure of Fulani herders from the region, citing escalating violence and insecurity. The ultimatum, issued in a statement on Friday by the group’s President, Comrade Magaji Mike Alidu, follows a series of deadly attacks, property destruction, and assaults on Idoma and Igede communities.

The group highlighted recent violence in Ojantele Akpete ward, Apa Local Government Area, where multiple deaths, widespread destruction of homes, farmlands, and public infrastructure, as well as incidents of rape, theft, and intimidation, have left residents displaced and economically crippled.

“This is a formal notice and ultimatum for Fulani herders to vacate Benue South with immediate effect,” the statement declared, accusing the herders of being “enemies of progress.” The group warned that the region could no longer tolerate their presence.

In preparation for the farming season, the youth group announced plans to fumigate farmlands and surrounding bushes to control pests and protect crops. However, they cautioned that the chemicals used would render the environment unsafe for livestock, urging herders to leave to avoid losses.

“We warn that our farmlands and bushes will not be safe for animals during this period,” the statement read. “We will not be held responsible for any harm or losses incurred.”
