Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has clarified that his recent confrontation with a street preacher was about curbing noise pollution, not banning evangelism. A viral video showed Soludo ordering the preacher to stop disturbing the peace at a market, reminding him of the law against noise pollution.

Soludo’s actions sparked criticism from some religious leaders and human rights activists, who accused him of infringing on the right to freedom of worship. However, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, dismissed these claims, saying the governor’s remarks were misinterpreted.

According to Nwosu, Soludo was enforcing the Anambra State Public Health Law 2006, which prohibits excessive noise in public places. The governor advised preachers to conduct their activities in churches or designated locations where people can participate willingly without disrupting others.
