Chaos unfolded at the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) national convention in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Tuesday when a hunter’s dane gun accidentally went off, injuring at least eight attendees.

The hunter, affiliated with the Hunters Association from Kukta Village in Song LGA, was stationed at the event to ensure safety when his weapon slipped from his grasp, struck the ground, and unleashed multiple shots into the crowd. SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the police spokesperson, confirmed that those wounded are now under treatment at a medical center in Demsa.

Authorities have detained the hunter, though his name remains confidential pending a thorough investigation.

In response, Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris sharply criticized the incident, issuing a stern advisory to hunters, vigilantes, and local security groups to refrain from carrying firearms—especially dane guns—to public gatherings. He stressed the need for heightened caution and called on the people of Demsa LGA to work closely with law enforcement to prevent similar mishaps moving forward.
