In a recent address to leaders of the Niger Delta under the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of adhering to the Supreme Court’s verdict in Rivers State. The Supreme Court had nullified last year’s local government elections in the oil-rich state and recognized Martin Amaewhule and the lawmakers he leads as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
President Tinubu stressed that Nigeria is a nation governed by the rule of law, and as such, stakeholders must follow the law to the letter. He expressed confidence in the judiciary and urged the leaders to ensure the court’s ruling is implemented within the shortest possible time.
Tinubu also revealed that he had anticipated the crisis in Rivers State and made efforts to prevent it. He emphasized the importance of caring for the Niger Delta region, which he described as “the goose that lays the golden egg.”
King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass Kingdom and Co-Chairman of the PANDEF Board of Trustees, thanked President Tinubu for his commitment to the well-being of the South-South region and the appointments given to Niger Delta indigenes.
