The Rivers State Government has denied reports that a High Court issued an order preventing the newly appointed Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibov-Ete Ibas (retd.), from resuming duties. The government described the reports as false and malicious, attributing them to individuals attempting to escalate tensions in the state.
The Chief of Staff to the suspended governor, Dr. Edison Ehie, dismissed the claims, stating that he did not file a lawsuit challenging the administrator’s appointment. Ehie urged the public to disregard the reports, emphasizing his commitment to law and order.
Ehie’s statement described the reports as “fake news” spread by “delusional minds” aiming to aggravate the state’s tense political atmosphere. He noted that the reports contained factual errors, including the misspelling of his name.
The government’s denial comes amid ongoing political developments in Rivers State, where President Bola Tinubu recently declared a state of emergency.
